Playing with Layers
I spent some time this afternoon trying to add layering to a song we’ve been working on. This is not the actual arrangement, just sketching out ideas. Let me know what you think.
What’s in a name…
The song we worked on last night has had at least three names:
- In a Turning World
- Ideation & Intent
- January Lights (the current name)
Now if it only it had some lyrics, vocals, keys and a final arrangement including an outro, we’d be set!
Guitar & Bass Scratch Tracks
Here’s a little video of us recording guitar and bass scratch tracks last week, video taken by my son Ian (the digital sounding beat is a metronome and will not be in the final recording):
Scratch Tracks
We’re really excited, we recorded some guitar and bass scratch tracks last week for Concordance & Compromise. John should be recording his rough drums over these this week.
In other news, let’s hope that our prospective piano/synth/vocals person works out so we can round out the sound and add depth.
Second Draft
Same song, thicker mix. More instrumentation, trying out some layering ideas.
First Draft
This is literally the first time we ever played this song like this, and the first time I sang it and played at the same time, not including air guitar and off-key warblings in the car. Which brings me to the other point which is that I’m woefully out of key in most parts. But it might be interesting to you.
